Go to ASMSKIMMER.com and get the G5 and turn it into the recirculating model on your own. You can position it anyway you want.

I read where even the guys at ASM don't recommend the recirc mod at this time. There is some issue with leaking.

I can't go against their own recommendation.

Yes, I agree with you. They are good and probably the best value by far. Probably would have already bought one had I not seen them recommending against the recirc mod.

Louey, that self-cleaning head is outrageously expensive. I'd never consider it myself. However, if you're rich and lazy, the cleaning head will keep the Deltec maintanence free for months (provided you have a big collection container).

I can't decide which one to get.

I sent an email to the BK guy to let him know I was having second thoughts. He is prepared to ship a 300 ext to me on Monday if I go through with the order. I told him that the Deltec's had peaked my interest.

I'll be interested to see if he replies with why BK is better, other from they look cooler ;)

You gotta admit, they do look cool as ****. I want one!

Well, their reply didn't help, tough I appreciate them not doing the hard sell even though I basically told them to give it to me.

No need to give you a hard sales pitch. I don't want you to second guess your choice. Get the one that best fits your needs. If money is an issue, the choice is easy for you. We have never needed to give a hard sell, we feel that bubble king is a far superior skimmer, if you want one I will ship it out Monday, if you have anymore questions please feel free to contact us.

Hey Louey, I think you should get the BK. I think they'll all perform terrifically for you, but I think you'd be plagued by the "what if" question if you went with anything but the BK :)

Actually, I am waiting for another response from BK. There was a bad review on their skimmer somewhere on the internet and I am waiting to hear their side of the story.

BK's biggest obstacle (IMO) is that there are tens of thousands (or at least thousands) of owners of Deltec's, Euroreef's, H&S, and/or ASM's out there. All of the owners of these skimmers think theirs is the best. And I am sure that they all are very very good.

BK aside, the following is my opinion of the other skimmers so far:

Deltec is probably the best but is also very expensive.

H&S appear to be very good too, but I had not heard of them until this weekend. Maybe H&S is da bomb?

Euroreefs are good, but there are plenty of unhappy ER customers out there. The bigger ER's are made to order (8 - 10 weeks). The ER recirc model is also fairly new.

ASM are almost as good as the ER's, but their recirc mod has some leak problem.

My homemade beckett skimmer (from the MACO course) that I recently converted to a penductor skimmer start skimming like a ***** this weekend. :D Still not as wet as I'd like, but pretty good.

I have the green light to do whatever I think is the best for the tank

Man, I haven't used a Mr. Green in a long time!

Have you tried a wet-neck mod for your becket/educator skimmer?

I have had this recent thought on recirc skimmers.. (this might be out there)
don't skimmers perform better on dirtier water?
wouldnt a recirc skimmer always have cleaner water then the main tank inside it?
wouldnt it be better to just process more water more water and skim it harder the first go round?
just a thought.... I first thought recirc skimmers would be killer but Ive recently rethought that..

Have you seen what some are doing with DIY airstone skimmers now?
these things look KILLER!!

Here's my take on recirc skimmers. The ideal skimmer should have long contact time + ability to process the required amount of water. With conventional needle wheel designs, if you want high processing capacity, the pump needs to draws from the sump at a high gph. Subsequently, you'll have a lot of bubbles and a lot of water throughout. However, the contact time will be very short as all that water will have to constantly enter and exit your skimmer. Given the same size reactor, if you employ a recirc, you effectively extend the contact time by magnitudes. You can control the throughput seperately to meet your processing needs. In other words, with conventional designs, if you want X amount of contact time or X amount of processing power, one decision will have a direct and uncontrollable effect on the other. With recircs, you seperate the two variables and control to greater efficacy.

What I was thinking is it limits the upermost extream of the skimmers effectivness by not being able to skim the most dirty water. I understand the contact vs. prosessing problem with needle wheel skimmers. It sounds like your saying that needle wheels are not as effective as say airstone skimmers in injecting air vs the amount of water flow needed inject that air (seening is you have to feed those desingns..lol). wich makes me wonder what is the best way to design a skimmer or best air injection tech there is for a skimmer right now..
btw. I was right there with you Len untill I did a little more reading.. now Im confused again.. LOL

btw. Ive read that Brent/Zephrant of Barr Aquatic Systems is bench testing a airstone skimmer or has done so recently. (I havnt tried to contact him yet about it but he was posting about doing it elswere and was gettting the equipment ready to do it) soooo.. Im thinking there might be a move back tword airstone skimmers now that the Sweetwater Fine-Pore Diffusers have been used and seem to run without the old problems that wooden airstones had in the past..
