now you can have pretty red pipes.. :P

btw.. It seems like the Bubble King and the D-tech are at an advantage from the size pump they use... why not do a decent impeller mod. on whatever pump you want? just a thought.. :P

Ya, but my Deltec and my old Euroreef can do that kind of skimmate too :P It just doesn't use that sexy Red Dragon pump and red PVC. FYI: The Deltec's bubble performance is impressive so far. It is a cut above the Euroreef. I wish the Euroreef could use Eheims.

My old F-1 Euroreef used the Eheim needle wheel pump. When it crapped I had to go to the Sedra, as I could not find an Eheim needle wheel to purchase.

louey i have seen the deltec cleaner... it is cool. it has 4 brushes on a rotator jobber.. two clean the outside of the skimmer cup two clean the inside of the skimmer "funnel" the whole thing telesopes depending on your skimmer... one even has a water jet like the rk2 line..

neat stuff really well built... I wish i had the clams...

I have had this recent thought on recirc skimmers.. (this might be out there)
don't skimmers perform better on dirtier water?
wouldnt a recirc skimmer always have cleaner water then the main tank inside it?
wouldnt it be better to just process more water more water and skim it harder the first go round?

Given the same water throughput, a recirc will be skimming the same volume of water as a non-recirc design (that is, it'll be processing the same volume/quantity of dirty water). The only difference is contact time. Are you theorizing that less contact time is actually better. That is a possiblity but I'm still in the old school of "long contact time = better" philosophy.

Air stone skimmers can be very effective IME. When I started this hobby nearly 20 years ago, that's pretty much all we had. It was simply a chore to maintain the airstones, and high output air pumps tend to get even noisier then water pumps (needle wheel or otherwise).

Louey,

come back up one weekend and I'll show you a skimmer that will make your loins tingle. You'll want to try to build one. And I ain't talking about the little eductor ones, neither.

What would happen to me if I came to visit Chris?

After all, my loins are always all a tingle anyway......

Oh yeah, I didn't build it. Not my idea at all, but I bow before it and make offerings to it nightly.

Sounds awesome. What is the principle behind this skimmer?

I'd like to go to Mote Aquarium again myself. Especially if Chris is going to give me the back stage tour again :D

I don't feel up to building another DIY skimmer tough.

The Bubble King is still in my cart. Been sitting there since Friday night. I said I'd make a decision this weekend.

And the verdict is.........

Leaning towards the cool red pipes! 8O  8)

I pulled the trigger. :D

The BK will be here before next weekend. So as long as I don't run into some real strange plumbing issues, it will be running by next Sunday :D

I'm sick. I know.

I will certainly take pictures of it. Probably not with a bulldog on top, since I don't own a bulldog. But there will be pics :D

FWIW, the performance differences in these top-tier skimmers really isn't going to make or break a tank. They are nice toys/trophies to have though :D

This is the most amount of common sense I have seen in a thread involving the BK skimmers ever :D :D

Just so you can be a bit more confused, let me pitch in a few more things your way. I am sure you know that smell, color, and even volume of skimmate have no known objective measure as their is nobody that has been able to compare them or even say what the heck is any of them. So, knowing that, why should any one of us be impressed with dark smelly skimmate? Even worse, you do know that skimmate that sits in front of strong lighting like aquarium lighting or sunlight does turn very very dark pretty easily from algae blooms occuring in such a nutrient rich media right? So, in those pictures you posted above with the dog and such how do you or me know that what was on the collection cup was the result of what the skimmer took out vs what grew in front of the lights?

Most of the high end skimmers will do a good job. If I had to personally choose between a BK, deltec, and a H&S (which are not new in the market by any stretch of the imagination), I think would have a much easier time telling you which I would not pick: BK. I've seen them at work as I have seen a Deltec and I was very unimpressed to be polite. Also, as little as there is of them around in the states, most come broken in shipping, which either negates their "overbuilt" or jsut says how poor they are packaged. Also, try getting a replacement part for any of it and you'll be sitting for a few months as there are several people waiting for broken collection cups, pump mounts, etc. I am not making this up as it is easy to start adding them up by the number of RC threads on these things. Add tot hat the fact that Klaus replies to some threads telling people that he is re-doing every part every other week. If they are so darn good, why do they feel they need to be re-doing anything so often? In my book, just too many questions with shaddy answers is any.

Len also brought up a good point earlier: get whichever you really want regardless because you will always be plagued with the questions of what if................

I guess you replied while I was writing.........
