Id bet you will need even more flow in the long run. Stick with the CL. Why not just let your tank returns run constant and add a second CL with another super squirt? Depending on your return pump/sump you likely wont get enough flow through the system without micro bubbles to make a difference if its on a wave maker. JM noob opinion.

I do not want to have one constant flow for any returns including closed loop. So thats why I was going to put a second Squirt for my return. Now seeing how much more stuff i need to get....the Squirt return is going to be a later project. I cannot afford a second one now. Until then. I am doing SCWDS. I will make them easy to clean by putting couplings or something that I will be able to get them off in the future.

I do not know what kind of pumps to go with. 2x Mag 24's? I need flow. I hear that they are noisey and put off heat. So I was thinking Mag 18. I am also considering Blue Line or some other external style pump. Thoughts anyone?

I am feeling DIYish. I think I am going to make my current skimmer
(Euro-Reef ES5-2) and turn it into a recirculating one.

Should Equal?

They are almost the same size.

Maybe? I got the Euro Reef for 150 bucks (BLEM direct from Euro Reef, which they do not sell anymore) and I feel why not? I dont want to spend 500+ on a good skimmer, when I have a pretty good one now and maybe with the mods...a great skimmer!

I am feeling like a Down Draft (ETSS) for this tank, BUT they use SOOO many WATTS!!!! You need such a huge pump to operate one. The classical style are so energy efficent.

Do you think this will work? Suggestions?

I surely have thoughts on those pumps. My mag 24 is in the cupboard as its too noisey regardless of what I did to it. I have two mag 18 pumps for my CL systems. They are also noisey. I have them set with a 1 1/4 intake and a 1" output. They have a 3/4" intake and return. I have to choke them back about 15 percent to quiet them down to tolerable noise levels through my fully insulated 2x4 wall. I wouldnt recommend them for external uses. They work well though. I was using an 18 for my return but even with it choked back 30 percent it pulled too much water through the sump and I had micro bubbles galore. Even with a 5 baffle system. I now have a mag 12 and can let it work with no restrictions.
So in short, I would highly recommend getting an external pump. It is only a matter of time before I do myself. Also, if you are doing a recirc. skimmer with your over flow connected directly. You may only need 5 or 6 hundred gallons of return flow anyway. Maybe the mag 7or 9 is just what you need.

I might just T off the main return to go to a skimmer and put a ball valve to regulate water pass through. I want to go with a bigger pump because I am running a 4 returns off of the main return. Possibly 1 more S.Squirt Compact, but until then, I will do it with SWCDS. The returns are going to all four corners at the top of the tank. The same will be done with the closed loop, but at the bottom.

One more stirke against the Mag 24....I am still shearching for a GOOD external.

Comming along nicely. I like the end doors, just did not feel like making them myself.

Nice color and shine on that stand. You have a real right to post yourself in the picture next to it. :P Honestly though, Nice work. It surely is a tall one. I really like the color you chose.

Yeah, I feel that it was a good choice. I was shooting for something dark with a little red or cherry color.

So I went to Wal Mart and bought
bombay_mahogany.gif
Bombay Mahogany 380/480 which is from Minwax® PolyShades®. It has polyurethane in the stain already. Strange I thought I try it out. It ended up coming out lighter than I thought, but made the wood look beautiful. The grain really showed through from the staining. I tried on a piece of sample wood that I got from when I tore the backing of the stand when I was doing the plumbing. I compared it to other stains and it just won me over. here is the site for that stain I used. ...... http://www.minwax.com/products/onestep/polyshades.cfm

I sanded on it forever. The guy who built the stand had some gashes, pencil marks, glue, and other imperfections. I got it really smooth with a 320 grain, then stained.

I did put another coat of polyurethane on it, I feel that it needed a little more shine and protection.

Here is the sump and plumbing. The sump is a 45 gallon with a refugium and is run by a BlueLine70 and the closed loop is run by the same.

Yes it is. New and improved. Great baffel design. Huge Refugium. Auto Top off. Anti Bubble.

Great sump. Easy to clean.

Come to Coral Connection and check them out. They are awesome. We got a huge one for the Green House.

Thank you all for the great comments!

Hey, that long piece you used for the strainer, that is not glued is it?

Cause it will need to be cleaned, not often, but I have to clean mine every 3 months or so because it grows up with stuff.
