As for the SOHAL, they say it should be the last tang in anyways. It is the meanest tang out there and can hold its own against any of them.
You might need to watch out for the other two
About the size, If you deciede to go for it pick one you feel comfortable with. I think it will add a nice touch to the tank. Buy a couple differnt fish and add them together to break up the attention of the other tangs

For a big fish, consider a Crosshatch trigger (more or less reefsafe)

I like the looks of that fish. The Marine Center considers them rarely available. And they fetch $500 - $600. RDO will have to give me a raise if I am to spend that kind of moolah on a fish.

A pair of Genicanthus angels would be nice.

Watanabe's appear to be to expensive too. TMC wants $349 for the male and $149 for the female.

Japanese Swallowtails look pretty cool and they're under $100 each.

Lamarck's are only $39 each, but they aren't really all that pretty IMO.

I may look into the Swallowtails.

The next time I go out and get a couple I will send them to you to try. The worst case, you get some free food

That would be cool.

Don't CBS have a bad reputation for tearing corals up to get the food that they are eating?

I'm not sure I want those claws in my reef.

I have a few corals like torch, mushrooms, (2 kinds), gorganians, candy canes, feather dusters ( atlantic and hawiians) button polyps and a sea anemone. The shrimp don't bother any of them. They love the spectrum though

Get a Marine Beta pair. I will not get big but you will not be sorry that you added them.
Consider a Lamarck's angel. A friend of mine got one in his tank, about 8 inches long. It is an outstanding fish. I would also consider a Majestic angel. There will not be a flashier fish in your tank. I did not have any problem with mine but I am sure you know that they may not be reefsafe.
Crosshatch Trigger is beautiful and will be reefsafe, and get big in your tank.

If I am you, I would add a Marine beta pair and a Majestic angel.

There are some beautiful Squirrelfish, Louey. I like the short biyeye. They may eat some smaller fish, but are reef safe. It will prolly hide out when all the lights are on though. So on second thought maybe a bad idea.

Cuban Hogfish.

The skinny at The Marine Center says:

Not recommended. Smaller individuals usually do not cause many problems in the reef aquarium, but as they grow they are a potential threat to snails, worms, ornamental crustaceans, and possibly corals.

Out.

That's a load of hooey, Louey. I don't know if there's any wrasse that normally consumes coral. :?

Bodianus spp. won't touch corals IME. The big ones may attack shrimp, snails, and even brittle stars when they get big but the candy hog only gets 4".

Doh! Just realized WRASSER put the Cuban Hog (B. pulchellus), not the Candy Hog (B. bimaculatus). It gets quite a bit larger, 9" IIRC. IMO it's a much more beautiful fish, and would do great in your tank. Since you have a harly tusk you're already putting small snails and shrimp at risk anyway.

So maybe I shall reconsider the cuban hog.

Here's the picture of one from TMC.

Is this the one you're referring too, Wrasser?

TMC doesn't list the maximum size. Will it really get to 9"? That would be cool.

Do you guys think a caban hog would get along with my tusk?

Do you dive for fish to sell or just for your own tank?

yes that is the one i am talking about, I have seen then bigger than 9'', 12'' or bigger. I had one in the tank ay BPS (bass pro shops) but it died:(
I am not certified in scuba, yet. I do snorkle and catch what I can for my tank. I am pretty particlar about what goes into the tank. IMO the atlantic does not have too many fish that are pretty enough for it.
I will have to get back with you about the Tusk and the hog getting along.

And Matt you are correct I did put a candy hog in the tank, sorry to inform you it did not make it.:( The cuban hogs are here in the atlantic and I can try to catch them while I snorkle

It should get along just fine with your tusk Louey.

Do you have any small urchins, clams, or brittlestars? This may be a problem if the hog is big. I typically see them for sale at around 3-5" though.

Matt, I know that both fish are open water fish and that can be a problem.
IME my Tusk tolerated my Dragon wrasse to the point I had to break up the aquascape so the Tusk didnt always see the Dragon.
They also compete for the same food. IMO it will be a hit and miss move. Because the Tusk is already there.

I've kept those exact two species together before and they didn't even look cross eyed at each other. Could be a fluke, of course, but I doubt it. Neither genus is really all that aggressive.

I have a 14" T. Gigas and a 4" T. Deresa. I also have three brittle stars that are 6 years old. I don't really care for the brittle stars, so if they went the way of my shrimps, then oh well.

Will the hog nip the clams? I don't recall ever hearing about any wrasses being hard on clams?
