I've caught many shrimp and crabs using a killie trap which is a wire fish trap used for catching bait. It has two inverted funnels where fish will swim into but can't swim out. You don't have to use bait, fish will swim in looking for shelter. Just tie a rope to it, throw it in the water, and check it the next day.
wow..thats what my leg looked like after recovering from my motorcycle accident....good thing your getting it fixed.....ur probably on a lot of antibodies huh....i was
I now have a local NY tank full of those tiny anemones, barnacles and grass shrimp.
Every few years I get the urge to do one of these tanks. The anemones are eating brine shrimp.
Paul, Are you able to keep the barnacles alive being they need periods of wet & dry???? I was thinking of collecting a few on our trip but I hear they are almost impossible to maintain successfully in a reef tank.
They are just about impossable to keep for any length of time. They last a few weeks. I don't feel bad for them because I spend a considerable amount of time trying to get them off of my boat props and outdrive. Nasty little suckers.
Maybe I will put a picture of my reef tank near my propellers to scare them off
i work in port at a club right on manhasset bay
my dockmaster tells me that if i go down to the marshy area on plandome road when the tide is high. i can collect just about any thing i want.
he says its nuts with pods
Thats where we went collecting. I just came back from there five minutes ago. You need to go there at low tide though, at high tide the water is 8 feet deep.
I use a small two man seine net, we got thousands of grass shrimp and small fish for food. There are fiddler crabs, Japanese shore crabs and amphipods.
Paul, I wasn't aware that you guys visited PW...I live about 5 minutes away from where you guys went to collect. Plmk next time you guys head out.

I am on my way there now. We will have breakfast on the boat then go and meet the gang.
I posted about 8 times when we went out collecting. The next time I go I will post again.
I probably will go out collecting shrimp tomorrow morning with my boat. I need to do a little maintenance and will be down there. If anyone wants to go, PM me tonight or very early in the morning
