oh, just one question.. Does it say that you need a certain level of water in your tank? what i mean is does it say that you must submerge the skimmer to what level on the skimmer box?

Was wondering because what you have only have a 6-7 inch of water level in the sump, would that make it less effective?

it is insensitive to water levels between 4"-11"

I think the next batch you should mail to Tom so he may smell it for himself.

good idea, i'll post it in the FS forum.

Nice stinky yucky skimmate, $1 / 10mL (negotiable)

at $427, the skimmer will pay for itself in 4,270 mL.
at 125mL/day that comes to about 35 days.

Damn, you really put alot of thought into this, huh. But I think its costing alot ;).. If you lower it, it might be better :D..

Is skimmate good for watering plants? alot of nutrient in it, right..

very cool. i have been looking for info on these for a while. so what do you think, happy with your purchase?

I am 99% sure that I am going to buy a 9010 to replace my H&S A110.

Have you seen any improvement in water clarity and or quality?
not particularly, but when i look at the collection cup, i sure am grateful that sutff is not in my tank.
perhaps once this is running for at least a week or two i may be able to really start noticing a change.

yes i am happy with it, especially it's simplicity.
i chose the 9015 over the 9010 as i figured for just a little more and a bigger cup, i end up with a more efficient/powerful skimmer.

I only have a 40g breeder with 15g sump, so i think the 9015 would be way more than i need. Roger recommended the 9010 over the 9005 though because i would have to buy the in sump kit for the 9005 which would make the price only $10 less than the 9010. I'm interested to see what this thing does when its broken in.

You say you have a light bioload, so what fish do you keep (180g tank right?)?
Do you run a fuge or grow macroalgae anywhere?
DSB? SSB? BB?

ok, the 9010 would probably be better for you then.
i have a 200gal system, refugium, 2" Sand, 300+ lbs rock, macro algae, xenia, clams, and now protein skimmer. For a Sailfin Tang, mated pair of false perculas, Anthias, 6-line wrasse, pajama cardinal, shrimp goby, and a blue-green chromis.

seems like everyone is getting one now, i should get a commision.

i left the foam off, the water level is just at the top of the pipe (maybe 1/4" below) and also it is in my sump before the baffles plus it doesnt really release too many bubbles. I really didnt see much benefit from the foam, just another thing to clean, so i have it saved till i find a purpose for it.

What's the good word of the day? Still a thumbs up with this skimmer?

Hard to believe that this skimmer can be as efficient, because it seems to dump water back into the sump near the point that it takes water into the skimmer. There has to be a better way of returning clean skimmed water back into the main tank, while replenishing that with the dirtier water coming from the main tank.

agreed, i guess you just need enough flow in the area so that you're not just skimming the same water, i guess you can put some sort of baffle between the intake and output to keep that water from mixing.
i cant compare it to other skimmers as this is the only one i've run on this system, all i can say is that i get about 125mL/day. doesnt sound like a lot, but doesnt sound like a little either.
