I was pointing out the fact that it took them one day to respond to the hobbyists, but a month and a half to respond to me. I was criticizing them for taking so bloomin' long to address the issues I and others brought to their attention. Second, I am extremely appreciative of the hobbyists and industry people who contributed to the net fund. However, can you honestly tell me that hobbyists are more up in arms about cyanide use than they are about what Tetra did?? You don't see hobbyists emailing, calling, faxing, and demanding a boycott of companies supporting the cyanide trade. That was my point.
Mary, I read your post as you intended. I'm inclined to agree - then I'll defer to the 'missing' golden child/popularity post - clearly emotions dictate the expediency of responses, and MAC is currently riding the Nemo-publicity wave (can't say as I blame them - using the Mouse as a springboard...)
I think one of the reasons is that so many hobbyists SAW the show with the Tetra/Nemo segment, and saw how blatently wrong it was. That segment surely got more airtime than any MAC statement, press release or whatnot - I haven't seen a MAC segment on any news program, in fact the only MAC stuff I've seen is here or on the MAC website - it's not delivered to my TV on the late news (that's about all I watch on TV anymore..) so it's not spoon-fed to hobbyists. Besides, many in the trade itself still are in major denial about the cyanide issue - so if the casual hobbyist went to their LFS and asked - they would certainly be assured that all their fish were net-caught - after all, EVERY wholesaler claims all net-caught. I have never seen a wholesaler even claim to have "some net-caught and some chemically-caught" fish, but we here know the reality of that....
I think that if there was real wide-scale awareness of the problem, it would garner the same outcry or better as the Tetra/Nemo debacle.
