More popular in Europe. The main problem is that it is difficult to maintain plants and corals, as the plants have a tendency to outgrow, then smother the corals. On a natural reef, that growth is kept in check by herbivores.
That's one of the best, most natural looking aquascapes I've seen! Uncluttered and open, nice use of macros as well. Reminds me of how a really good bonsai represents a full grown, aged tree.
Hmm, well, not according to much of the research that I did...
Marinedepotlive: "The Spotted Cardinal is commonly found in small schools in amongst the branches of various types of branching Corals."
fishbase.org: "Forms aggregations among the branches of Porites nigrescens and P. cylindrica in...
I have 3 Pajama Cardinals that do NOT school. I bought 5, 2 died within a week. They stay on opposite ends of the tank... not what I had in mind. I've heard you need at least 5 or more for them to school.
I'd go with the wrasses recommended above or some smaller anthias.
Ideal qt would be 4-6 weeks, which will cover the full lifecyle of common marine parasites. If nothing shows up by then, they should be good to go.
In reality, most problems will show up within 2 weeks or so. Thats how long I qt for.
I had very good luck with tons of coralline using Sunpaq combo pc bulbs with the following: 2 x 10000K/6700k Dual daylight + 2x 7100 Blue / Actinic 03 Dual. I recently replaced them with 2x 8800K and 2 x Actinic 03 and most of my coralline in well lit areas ended up bleaching out. Those 8800K...
Nice article. I've had a Halichoeres Melanurus for a couple years now and mine is a great addition to my reef. He eats any 'pod he can find as well as bristle worms, flatworms, and baby brittle stars (I'd prefer he didn't eat those :( ) He is a very intelligent fish, constantly on the prowl. He...
My 8 year old Green Spotted Puffer just died last month. I had him back in my old 55 freshwater tank, which I converted to salt. I had a 7 year old Pygmy Angel that died earlier this year. I have a 7+year old blue damsel, my first true saltwater fish, still living and kicking butt.
I grow a little halimeda in my display. It grows slow enough to not get out of control, and nothing eats it. Chaeto and caulerpa I keeps in the sump. I throw a bit of cheato into the display for my foxface to eat a couple times a week. He ensures that no other macros will grow there!
