  1. opinions about starboard? where do you buy starboard?

I have it. bought it from cuttingboardfactory.com Looks like this:
  2. Calling beaslbob!! need help?

I doubt bob's method will support a full blown SPS tanks so I'm going with low calc, low flow, low light, low maintanence loving corals, like fake ones (just kidding). Sorry I haven't posted lately been busy setting up the nano. I re-tested my tap water as follows: TDS 450 ORP 619...
  3. Calling beaslbob!! need help?

I don't think it's a question of IF it dissolves more like how MUCH dissolves. Bob Ferner indicates that calcium reactor media will impart some calcium carbonate with tank water passing through it at a ph of 8. Guess I'll find out soon enough, I have 50# of oyster shells left over from an...
  4. I need to raise my alkalinity

Balance is just as important as the overall number. A balanced number would be calcium 450ppm, alk 4.45 meq/l, and magnesium 1350ppm. Run the calculator to verify. That's what I always shoot for.
  5. ozonizers.... anyone using one?

I run ozone. I bought the cheap Enlay model off e-bay it's 300 l/h. They work best with an air drier and the ozone injected into the skimmer. The skimmer output should flow through carbon to avoid any excess ozone making it into the tank. Ozone is an oxidizer, and while it breaks down...

  7. Calling beaslbob!! need help?

ummmm Note to self: run fuge lights same cycle as tank :o
  8. Calling beaslbob!! need help?

I have lived here since AD 1963, and yes I consider myself old. I have children older than you LordNikon  I did go to HS here, Moon Valley high class of AD 1972. I'm still young to reefin' though :? Mike
  9. Calling beaslbob!! need help?

Got it Bob. I'll just add sand and water, get the fuge going good then start on the display. Thanks for the help. One quick one, do I need to feed the plants anything or just keep them under the lights?
  10. Calling beaslbob!! need help?

Yep, I'll fully test and document the tap water and mixed SW. I live in Peoria AZ and the water here is not the best. We have high KH and ph around 8. Phosphates of .5 are why I run ro/di on my other tank. So step one will be "the initial water". If I understand correctly the plant life will...
  11. Calling beaslbob!! need help?

This is going to be interesting, haven't even added water yet and we have a good debate going. I bought a 10g last night so the nano will be a 7g fuge and 10g display. I have some play sand (not southdown) about 10 lbs of LR and 20 lbs of base. Per Bob I will fill with tap water after running...
  12. Calling beaslbob!! need help?

Yes, until April 30th. Needs to be up and running by then.
  13. Calling beaslbob!! need help?

Bob, I just enetered the nano build off and I want to use your method. I'm being totaly serious here. I have a small 7g (I think) flat back hex tank, hang on filter, 18w PC light, oyster shells, and tap water. I want to do this like you suggest with minimum maintanence. I'm going to plumb it...
  14. Back in the Game- Need some Help

Loose the fluval and get the best protien skimmer you can afford. Everything else is OK, maybe sand instead of crushed coral (it traps detritus). Don't worry about plants or a fuge. Practice good husbandry and you'll do fine.
  15. chemical reaction with supplements

Hmmm, did you mix the two together in water, saltwater, or just with each other? Pretty unlikely anything precipitated if you just mixed these two together based on the makeup of the products. If you mixed it in SW I would expect it.
