  1. What do you all do for a living?

I teach high school - poli-sci, U.S. and World history; sponsor of the astronomy club. Love it. -rw
  2. Small RO/DI unit required...suggestions?

Agree with reefann. I'm using the Typhoon and it's performing very well. TDS read 0 after letting the first hour's production go down the drain. Hugh the "water guru" is very responsive and helpful. -rw
  3. Best possible powerhead/pump to use on a AquaC Urchin?

Ditto to mooner. Avoid the Rio at all costs, or it will cost you - sooner or later. 8O -rw
  4. bristle worms?

Inestrinh, Bristleworms are very desirable for a healthy tank - some of the best detrivores you could have. Take a look at the components of good sand bed starter kits or detirovre kits - bristleworms. Leave them be and let them do what they do. Most all anecdotal stories of bristleworms...
  5. Lots of tiny white worms in my marine aquarium.

Pods. Good Thing. Try sneaking up on your tank with a red-filtered flashlight a couple hours after lights out. You'll be amazed at the life running around your tank. Don't get freaked out by the large bristleworms. They're good guys, too. :D -rw
  6. How did this happen??

They do that. It's their way of spreading the population around the reef. It should reattach somewhere else in time. Or, you can put it in a small container with a piece of rubble and then place it where you like once it attaches. Just keep an eye on it. regards, -rw
  7. Poor expansion: Goniopora, Aveopora, Anthelia....Need Viagra

not sure about the others, but goniapora has a poor survival history. They tend to starve over several months. Borneman has a good discussion in Aquarium Corals. That would be a good addition to your library. Likely you'll find answers to your other questions as well. It's pretty thorough...
  8. Happy Thanksgiving

Hope all of you have a terrific holiday. :D There are always things for which we can be thankful. I'll start: a wonderful loving wife and four great kids a rewarding job a great country to live in a gracious and forgiving God the ability to keep a captive reef alive:D that's my personal...
  9. squid

octopii have been kept by some, but they are very short-lived. And as PeeJ says "an airtight tank" Cephlapods are very intelligent creatures and they will find a way out. Not to mention that nothing in your tank will be safe - esp. your inverts. As for squid - no idea other than that they...
  10. bristleworms suddenly attacking my clove polyps

CiXeL, Shane is right - more water change. With a tank that size you could easily add 2 more MJ 1200's. Put one relatively low to sweep the surface of the substrate, but not so low that it plows up the sand. A wavemaker would be helpful also to randomize the flow and minimize dead spots. The...
  11. bristleworms suddenly attacking my clove polyps

CiXeL, What are your water perameters? With the die off you've described and the cyano outbreak something may be amiss. Could also be a circulation issue. What do you have for powerheads and placement? That would also explain your bristleworm's behavior. Chances are they are behaving...
  12. turn-key aquariums and the new hobbyist

I'd have to agree w/LA lawman. "The ox is slow, but the earth is patient." -rw
  13. Kent Marine Mix?

afgoody, I can't locate the article either :? Anyone else remember the article? I thought it was an article that was on the Aquarium Frontiers index once upon a time. Anyway to access that anymore? If memory serves, I think Kent and IO topped the list as being closest to natural sea water...
  14. turn-key aquariums and the new hobbyist

CiXeL, In an ideal world, a great idea. Had the same thoughts myself. But with a turn-key, there's no learning curve. Nothing like building the thing yourself after all the research to lock in the biology and the chemistry that allows the system to work. I also think that many instant...
  15. slow edits?

Liquid, Thanks for the reply and all your efforts :D Maxed out the server, eh? What a great problem to have!! regards, -rw
