Wow, the Wunderpus is really cool. How long did you have it?

EDIT: it was only even named in 2006 (see Hochberg et al. 2006). And it looks like the majority of live specimens they were able to examine for the article designating a new genus and species were from the aquarium trade.

8 months - the longest in captivity so far. Eric Hochberg now has his body :D

Its really sad that they came from the trade because the attempts to obtain them through the trade kick started their collection en masse for the trade.

In quickly reading up on these interesting creatures the one thing that stuck out was that their blood was copper-based. Is there any worry that they will contaminate the whole tank when they perish or somehow injured releasing copper into the tank?

Paratype indeed! :D

More pictures courtesy of ellebelle. The Octo actually did not eat the silverside as it appears in the picture. In my Octos old age, the only thing she will eat is farm raised shrimp from Belize. I know that is weird :). Her appetite is slowing down :(

Yeah. She has been coming out later and later lately. I haven't seen her come out earlier than a half hour after the moon lights come on. It is sad knowing she is not going to live much longer :(
