the A I 's are fully dimmable there are 14 timers so u can do alot with these lights yes u pay for the controller but the controller that u get from them is great i have 2 modules over my 90 and the lights are only at 40% white 45% blue and 50% royal blue and my corals are loving the light and about half the cost of acan"s not saying acan's are bad they are great lights as well i am lucky i dont see the lights cause my tank is in the wall but acan fixtures are a better looking product if you are going to see the fixture

What are the negatives with the Cree's? I am real curious. First time I read it.

From what I've been looking at, the new maxspec G3 which isn't out yet, the G2 230w, and the AI fixtures are the ones I would purchase for the simple fact that they can be upgraded and renewed. If your spending 4k+ on lighting like I would have to if I went LED its a huge selling point. I don't want to be sending my unit in for repairs and upgrades like I would with Acan. All I have to do is open it up and swap out parts.

Acan is leading with customer service though. The only thing I don't like with Acan is that their white is weird and unless your running a 20k blue with them they always look a little off. Their fixtures are great and controllable.

IMO, as far as LED fixtures, I would wait another year before purchasing. The advances in premade units over the past 6 months has skyrocketed. A year ago Acan was the only real company out there mass producing with built in controllers as a standard. LED's were only 1w as well and now 3w is the standard on most fixtures out there=0) OLED technology is very close to reef capable which is another thing people should be watching. If you need a fixture now go ahead as you won't be dissapointed.

Wow. I think, you just changed my mind about buying a new fixture in the near future. Thanks, you just saved me $400.

OK, I decided to "go local" and bought a 36" CAD Lights LED system. I picked it up from Ray at Aquarium Village in Westbury. So far very happy with the overall look and the performance.

Unfortunately - and unless I am doing something wrong - you cannot run these on a timer.

I noticed that if you shut off the lights with the remote it comes with and turn it back on with the remote, it comes back to where it was as far as settings go. However, if you just interrupt the power, when you plug it back in, it comes on "full bore", that is, full daylight/full actinic. This may not be a bad thing for some people, but I like running mainly the actinics most of the day and then running the 10k daylights for a few hours in the evening.

Does anyone own these lights? Is there a work-around, or am I doing something wrong  ?

Thx
John

I was told by couple leads that they have your same problem and they eventually switched to another brand. So I assume there is no getting around as of right now.
