  7. Question about Aptiasa

HI, Peppermint shrimp are hit and miss when it comes to aptasia. I have had luck with mine but others don't. It seems they will go after the aptasia if there isn't anything more appealing to munch on. It may be worth a try. I have heard some reports of pepermints going after some polyps and...
  8. Tank-scape ideas (Tang Police welcome......)

I don't think he had designed it around the choice of occupants as much as from an asstetics point of view. I didn't get a gallon figure but I would say the deminsions were different thats for sure. The tank was at least 4 feet front to back by 4 feet long and at least 5 feet tall. The tank...

Does the algea come of easily by hand? or is it firmly attached? also does it seem like its fiberous? 10. Tank-scape ideas (Tang Police welcome......)

I saw a tank like this a while back when I was in chicago. It was a very interesting display. The owner had made the center "pile" stable by drilling the rocks and used 1/2" pvc to plug the rocks into each other. I wish I had taken a photo because it was very neat. to give you a visual, he...

  12. time to replace the bulbs...which should i use?

Good eye MONKEYBOY! The clam in the center is a Dersa. The clam you see in the lower left of the photo is a 2nd grade maxima. I purchased the maxima 9 months ago as an attempt to see if I could keep clams. So far so good so I saved back a few bucks and bought the Dersa. The Maxima has been...

  14. time to replace the bulbs...which should i use?

Thanks for the replies. I like the way my tank looks with the ushio and actinics but thought a quick survey of peoples thoughts would be a help. This will be my first bulb change and to be honest, the only reason I went with the ushio last year was because of a sale i happened to get in on...
  15. time to replace the bulbs...which should i use?

Hello all and happy holidays ?!? It's time for me to replace my MH bulbs and I am undecided on the best to try. I do not and will not be keeping SPS in my tank for at least another year but I do have 1 clam (Dersa). I am currently running the 250w ushio's (they are 10000k) along with 4x55w PC...
  16. Ushios 250w 10000k for Blueline 250w 10000K.

I am running dual 250w 10000k Ushio's on a PFO ballast on my tank and I agree that the actinics are needed. I am about to replace mine and am trying to decide if I should go with a differnt bulb this time. ty
  17. Just to make sure...

I have had great success by using boiling kalk paste. To do this, Boil some water and then add kalkwasser to the boiling water. add enough kalk to make a "goopy" consistancy. Turn off ALL of your pumps and then use a turkey baster to distribute the HOT "goop" directly on top of the aptaisia...

  20. Need info on adding kalk in makup water.

Thanks for the info Danmhippo! I will look into the nilsen some more on search. It certainly looks cheaper and easier than a CA reactor. I wander how often you would need to replace the kalk powder. I was not sure if a CA reactor was really needed for a 55 with no sps but I wanted to ask...
