Damn you are a bad reefer.. How is that undata frag coming along? Mine is changing color and getting fluffy white polyps. Also it has already got new growth..

You need more flow in the frag tank, shorten your photo period and skim wetter for a few days. That in addition to your "snake oils" will get rid of the problem in a few days. Or you can keep the tank in the dark for 48 hours with a plastic cover. Frags wont like it but will recover fast.

Warren last time I used this stuff I saw a reduction by the second week and it was 100% gone in less than a month. So far i am seeing a reduction in the frag tank but a small increase in the display. I dunno we'll see. I added the second dose for this week.

Jim a video camera upgrade is on the list. These videos are take with one of those 720 crappy flip cams.

Weird thing happened to one of my corals. This is a very fast growing prostrata/milli type. About 2 weeks ago I had an acro crab jump ship from his wild colony onto this frag. I thought is was pretty cool. I did notice a lack of polyp extension within the branches but didn't think anything of it. Yesterday morning I saw a big chunk of tissue missing and the crab left the colony. Now he's on my australian spathulata. I left him because I don't want to disrupt the colony while it's settling in. The spath seems fine but if I see the slightest problem, the crab is a goner :)

Pic of damage. This is one of the little all white crabs. It doesn't have furry legs.

Jackson I 100% agree with u on larger systems growing sps better / faster and think its probably because of the increase bacteria population but also that much water parameters dont swing as much as in sm tank like my 40 breeder I can't wait to get my new house and set up a 300 gal to test this theroy

:wow:300 gallons! Now we're talking. I have a tank warming present for you ;) The first cut I make of this is yours. Just waiting for it to encrust and grow some more.

To keep up on the cyano battle...... Cyano has not decreased yet, actually increased a little. I have been doing 15 gallon weekly water changes, reduce feedings to once per day, and changed GFO. I figured that limiting po4 source can't hurt. We'll see....

FWIW, I have noticed that frequent water changes actually make cyano ( once the bloom is already there) worse. I have no clue why other than the assumption that you are replenishing things that help facilitate growth. I think GFO is a good idea as is a few days of darkness. My strategy has always been to weaken it as best I can, keep it reasonably under control via manual removal, detritus removal changing up current patterns etc. Eventually, it disappears on its own just as mysteriously as it appeared.

Randy, the last time I had a cyano outbreak it lasted for a couple of months. You're right about the water changes, it always looked worse afterwards :). I never thought that I could be fueling it with elements from the salt. Hmmm.. I have to explore that possibility. I never tried darkness for a few days. I am worried that I will stress corals. I'll save that for a desperation measure. For now I will keep my faith in this stinky microbe-lift special blend, while limiting nutrients put into the tank. It worked for me in the past, and a few other guys that I know. This is the price I pay for stocking so quickly :D

Im doing a light treatment on my sps tank now. DID 3 DAYS with no light and now my light are cut my 50%, and dont really see any cyano anywhere anymore. And Randy might be right about cyano being seasonal.

I had a huge cyano outbreak after hurricane sandy came through. I wonder if it was due to all the phosphate caused by the extensive die-off in my tank.

This week I noticed an outbreak of cyano also... I'm going to start dosing vodka and Zeobak once my skimmer arrives Tuesday. Competing bacteria has been said to help with Cyanobacteria due to competition. Increasing GFO will also help, hopefully.

Maybe we can all compare our cyano notes :D

I just live with it like i said. I just chalk it up to its part of my system and just blow it around and syphon it when i do what changes. Usually its a small amount on my sand and every few months it starts to get a little more aggressive, then back to just the sand bed. I have 2 vortechs,a cheap powerhead and a seaswirl so i know my flow is just fine and my reading are .05 nitrate and about the same for po4. I feed once a day and have a beast for a skimmer. I also baste it around when i know people are coming to my house to pick up frags so they see how pretty the tank is and not the cyano LMAO. Dont bother me to much anymore
