thanks trido.
cheap.....i try to not spend, but sometimes you have to. as for the 75 gallon tank, it was my old display tank, just sitting there doing nothing. i didn't really want a FOWLR, or another reef, and i love watching my fuge, so...here we are. i originally planned to sell it and purchase a 55 gallon tank, but i had no bites on it.

as for lighting, i am buying shavos old outer orbit fixture, and will incorporate that somehow. that has the blue actinics, 10k whites, and moonlights i lack. i am getting a decent price on it- you certainly wouldn't see me paying retail for one of those!
so, pretty soon i will have approximately 1200 watts over my tank. 8O

i have to say that this tank rivals the "reef pilliar" and "sanjays" 500 gallon jobby, this tank has personality. major personality
hey X somebody here suggested wood with magnets, how about cut sheet metal with magnets? i think that would work and you could paint it black and it would match. I dunno, if you can't beat em join em as they say! you should change the name of this thread BTW IMO/IME to Mr. X's science project build!!!

if anybody is interested i found a great website for cheap power compacts!
like 10 bucks a bulb for 33" 96 watt 65 watt for $7.50
cheap!
let me know and I will post it

new light. bought shavo's old orbit fixture and set the timers for dawn (blue actinics), morning (10k daylight cf's) and mid-day(my halides), end of the day the 10k daylights come back on for a few hours and then the blues for a couple hours before bedtime.
so..total wattage on the tank is 1184. that is of course, excluding the 165 watts over the fuge :P

the hose clamp on the return line spout came loose somehow and leaked about a gallon of water before it tripped the breaker and shut down the pumps.
unfortunately, the fixture that was hit with the dripping water was one of the 400 watt ballasts
and below is a picture of my new starfish. we thinks it's spiderman reincarnated!

well..the latest news is what i call "a coral rescue".
i went to look at some frags, and when i got there i witnessed a horribly mis-managed tank that stunk like a rotten halibut in summer!
everything was barely viewable due to the micro/macro overgrowth and most corals were closed and/or dying/dead. i took what i could, and after inspecting the rocks for hitch-hikers, i acclimated and inserted.
the tangs cleaned the rocks up good and everything is starting to come to life. this is a couple days later......
