Looks like Hurricane Irene could be a direct hit into the NYC area! Might want to start to make some preperations incase the power goes out for any period of time.

Good luck!!

Long Island residents should be pay extra caution for both flooding from rainfall, and raising sea line plus EXTENDED power outage. The hurricane may slide by there if the eastern air system does not pull the hurricane to their side fast enough according to the weather report. Even if it does not hit the Island, the collateral damage due to raising sea line could be something to watch out for anyway.

The current project path

It's looking bad, may be a very close hit.

I would just need to run my mp40 and return pump what is the cheapest way to do this Should I buy a sm generator? The vortex back up is around $200 large and heavy and thick it will only run 1 mp 40 for few days so I'm thinking a sm generator would be better also assuming that if I wait till it hits they will all be sold / rented

My theory to that is if you are expecting a short brown out, then you can go with battery type backup plans. However, if you are expecting EXTENDED time of black out(like in Long Island), a generator is more reasonable because not just for your tank but also for your household.

I was at the HD in Valley Stream late this afternoon to grab an extra gas can ...and they already have no generators left to sell :(

I will be placing the 'sticky' on top of the forum tonight outlining different things you can do if you lose power this weekend. DO take a look at it and prepare now!!
