Ok based on popular demand here are the details and I'll answer some of the Q out here.

Even though Randy is doing a good PR for this tank there are some misconception about the lights. PS I love you too Randy.

The original plan was for 5X1000W 20,000K MH
on tracks moving across the width of the tank
(I.E 4')

Now there are 3X1000W 20,000K MH on tracks moving in the same maner. Plus 4X 96W static PC's.

The tank dimentions are 10'X4'X4'. The equipment room is a converterd 1 car garage full of 8 RK2 pumps and 3X200 Gallon sumps.
The garage has its own 200 Amps electricity.

There are tons of information about this tank, such as a titenium heater and a relay system that controls all the pumps and chiller and heater and C02.

Here is a link of som pics I took yesterday when we fill the tank with sea water. It took 2 trips to scripts with 450 Gallon truck to fill it.

If anyone has specific questions please email me @ [email protected]

The URL is : http://members.home.net/arnon.brouner/aqua/

There are a bunch of pics just look around.

Nice job (Rick O) of finding it.

I hope soon to have a web site.

I'm in the process of finding out what not to put in, kind of look for bounderies, such as seahorses they will not servive due to the strong currents (~20,000 GPH). I'm not sure what else not to put in. Personaly I would have lots of clams,SPS,LPS and some fish, crabs.

does anybody know of other things I should not keep in ?

Yeah, dolphins probably wouldn't be a good choice, nor would killer whales, sea turtles or great white sharks. Threshers and hammerheads might be OK, though.

You really need to determine a direction that you want to go in and take it from there. For example, although not typically found in most reef tanks, a lionfish could be kept in your tank but that would limit you to larger fish since anything that can fit in its mouth will probably end up there. The same could be said about frogfish, toadfish, etc and even eels although they really do more damage in their moving around, especially if you are going to have fragile corals in the tank.

Many of the aggressive fish (e.g., triggers) would love your tank ... and they'd also love your janitor crew so you have to keep that in mind.

Fish that aren't strong swimmers (doesn't that sound weird!?!) might have some trouble getting caught in one of your tornadoes, I mean returns. That would basically preclude you from the pipefish, seahorses, and even cowfish, boxfish, puffers, etc. T

There are obligate feeders such as corallivores that, for obvious reasons, would not do well in a reef tank - unless you were willing to sacrifice your corals for it. There are many Chaetodon spp. butterfly fish that fall in this category.

The "usual" reef fish such as the many tangs, wrasses, blennies, gobies, jawfish, anthias, chromis, clownfish, various angels, firefish, cardinals, hawkfish, dottybacks, etc would, undoutably, do well in your tank. Sit back and think about how you want your system to be - large schools of color flashing by, magestic angels dominating the tank, serene environment where you have to search out the "action," etc. - and take it from there. Besides the fish you told me about, you must have some idea of what you want to have and then work it from there.

Baby steps, my man, baby steps.

I am also a member of SDMAS as when we did that tank tour a few weeks ago, we had to leave after we were at Maurice, sorry we missed seeing it in person. That all Randy has done is rub it in that we left to soon.

Keep the picture of your process coming. Hope to see it soon.

Annette,

Thats the smartest questions I've seen on this thread (other then the reef engineer).

Barry,

You guys are always welcome to drop by, just let me know. As you see there is not much to see. The lights are not even on.

See you

I would go strictly sps and some leathers, this would enable you to keep some nice angel fish, which i find to be the most stunning fish in the ocean, in my 180 i have a majestic, french, and a blue faced angel.in my pond i have a juv imperator. These will all be going in to my someday 1000 gal system. Right now i'm able to keep lps corals with most of the angels, only because they are well fed, but i know as they age i will be forced to move the lps to another system, unfortunatly it will be about 5 years or more before i get the big tank.

All I can say is WOW!

That style of tank is a dream of mine. If I'm fortunate enough to be able to build my next home I will certainly venture to include a in-the-wall aquarium like that (just not as big)

And as a home theater buff, I find it hard to believe that you would have such a spectacle in your theater room. It will be next to impossible to watch a movie when there is such an amazing show behind you!

You are truly fortunate to have a project as ultimately rewarding as that.

I can visualize a school of 5 - 7 yellow tangs in there darting in and out of the huge SPS coral heads. 30 or 40 chromis flashing as one to quickly scoot out of the way of the tangs...
