Maybe Lifer got shut down by his bosses.
I would think so, because if it is a scam (happy jime ) they wouldn't be happy with his giving us info that makes the product sound dumb. Watch battery size magnet, only using the north magnetic pole, etc.
Plus, scams never get into real discussions about the product. Very controlled discussions regurgatating the same carefully worded blah blah blah, yes. Actual discussion with real information, no. If you read the other threads on the other boards, you will see that the same Gamble stuff has been posted there too.

Thanks, Sharkkman. :D

Righty, I can see that you're just a very angry man. No, really! How can you joke about it?

I'd be happy to take it off your hands. PM me and let me know how to get you my address and Fedex account number. Also I wouldn't mind having a copy of your reciept, If I find it doesn't work I'll try and return it and let you know how it goes. Hopefully that won't be too much trouble. Thanks

Righty,
 Much better

Ok I've got some questions...

First, I will admit that I am not an authority on magnets.

If I am not mistaken, we are living on the largest and most powerfull magnet that we (as humans) have access to... The Earth.

Now, granted, we all cannot have our aquariums sitting on the north pole, but so what? Sure, the magnetic field in stronger at the poles since that is where it is generated, or rather eminates. However, considering the size of the magnet, anywhere on the planet would be surrounded by a magneting field stronger than any magnet small enough to fit in an aquarium.

This coupled with the IR emmiting capability of even a standard flourescent bulb should mean that EVERYONE'S tank should be perfect. In fact, there should be no reason for test kits or any form of filtration since the two most important parts of this "uber-filtration" in naturally occuring.

Heck, there should never be a need for water changes! There should never be a crashed aquarium. We all should be able to dump water, salt, rock, sand and any and all animals we want to keep without any problems, if this product does what it claims to do.

Bottom line is that this product attempts to create what already (and has always, BTW) naturally occurs. If nature cannot make this combination of magnatism and IR radiation work, what makes us think that we possibly could?

But, then again, maybe nature does make this work. Maybe the creators of the Eco have discovered the mysterious filter that the ocean uses. All this time we thought it to be a combo of algea, sand, live rock filtration. Of course it could not possibly be that beaches and wave action make the largest protien skimmer in existence. No, it must be the combo of magnetism and IR! How stupid we all have been!

SIGH! More junk to debunk in this hobby... Just what we needed...

Actually, the Earth's core is the largest magnet, but not very powerful when compare to natural, and in particular, man-made magnet. Earth's magnet is barely strong enough to turn a compass's needle, while electromagnet in motor drives a car at pretty good speed.

To further Dave's comment, all you have to do is bring a small magnet near a compass and you can see how easy it is to overcome the Earth's magnetic field.

As far as everything else Mark said... Yeah, you got the general idea!

I'm wondering now if I will ever recieve the one I ordered from them, after chasing off their spokesperson with my comments.

Been there, done that, not responding to this thread again.

If I were to waste ANY more time with this thing, I'd send it to some one Eco won't send a test one to (MattM comes to mind). Jime, they'll most likely send you a test unit, ask them.

It seems you are pretty worked up about it. :D

Me, I am interested in psudeo science scams. It is kinda a hobby of mine. If you don't like it, great, stop reading this thread. But I don't think you have to bust my, or anyone's, chops over it.

Sadly, I think many people will buy this product.

Can you give us a review on this product and some scientific evidence that it is in fact fun.

I'm with you on this! I read threads like this for amusement. It's always amazing to me just how many people will take manufactures claims at face value and defend them to the death. It's sad, but very funny. What surprised me about this thread was that so few people tried to defend the product. I think I counted two and one claimed to be an employee. Maybe it's just too new?

What is really funny is that most of these scams can be debunked by elementary school science and/or high school physics and chemistry.

To date, the Marc Weiss threads and the Combi-San study are my favorites. I still cannot believe that people were defending Combi-San after it was proved to be more than 99% water.

What makes Marc Weiss and others like him so sucsessful is that they know most people are too uneducated in these fields to even question their claims. By the time the experts come in to provide damage control, it's too late. Most people believe what they have read and heard first. It would take an act of God to prove otherwise.

HEY! I just thought of something! Why doesn't the Eco-Aqualizer people use ceramic magnets? Since all material emmits the IR radiation they claim to need and use some sort of ceramic to provide that, why not kill two birds with one stone? :D

I do have a serious question though. While it may not work as claimed, at least one member had it interfere negatively with two seperate skimmers on two seperate tanks. What could the magnets possibly be doing to hinder the skimmer's performance? This at least proves that it does SOMETHING. Clearly not a good thing and in fact is opposite of what they claim it should do, but it cannot be dismissed.

This at least proves that it does SOMETHING.

I am guilty of not saying anything about it. post hoc, ergo propter hoc can be use to explain the reason when any device seems to have a negative effect, as well as when people testify for the fact that it works.
