My apologies. $2,500 was only for Reefs.org's direct donation + auction contributions. The total funding for the Salt Study was closer to $4,500 (about $2,100 in contributions from all other sources). As a disclaimer, I do not access to the bookkeeping information, so please assume my figures as estimates only.

Len, I went back and double checked the contributions as well. After the first week of contributions Tom (MickAv8r) posted that there was $645 contributed directly to Inland reef, $800 of contributions from Reff Central members and a matching contribution of $500 from Reef Central. That is $1,945. It looks like some more tricked in and out and in July of 2004 the donations were as follows: Direct Donations $770, PayPal Donations $65, Donations through Reef Central $800, Reef Central Match $500, Donation Refunds ($25) = Total $2,110.

Did RDO raise $2,500 exactly through the auctions? I never did see an exact amount on that.

As far as expenses, MattM mentioned buying labware to prepare the sample and then the lab expenses should be fairly easy to verify I would think that would be the bulk of the expenses. Not sure if the salt to be sampled had a sample removed and then they sold the rest of the bucket or what.

Now that astronomydaily.com is out of business as well as Inland reef I hope this study can finally get completed at some point. I know there are several people that would be more than willing to convert the raw data into a presentable format.

FWIW, Nathan

I will have to check our accounting today for exact figures, but I know Reefs.org's fundraising and direct contributions exceeded $2,100.

Funding Sources

Donations - Individual hobbyist donations can be made through this link to our online store or through PayPal to [email protected]. In addition, donations and matching contributions have been made through Reef Central. Donations as of 09 January, 2004 are as follows:

Source Amount
Direct Donations $770
PayPal Donations $65
Donations through Reef Central $800
Reef Central Match $500
Donation Refunds ($25)
Total $2,110

Auction/Raffle - The folks at Reefs.org are organizing auctions and raffles of high value donated equipment to help fund this effort. Follow the Reefs.org link above for details and links to the auctions pages.

The Bottom Line

It looks like $4000 - $4500 can realistically be raised with a combination of donations and the auctions/raffles. Testing two lots for consistency would allow us to do five to seven different salts. We will consider this a first phase and attempt to test more in later phases depending on the degree of interest and money that are generated from the initial testing

Combining the seperate pieces of information might give a ballpark value of the amount collected by Inlandreef.

Nope, no news is not good news. I can't get a hold of Matt :(

Len,

Try 603-321-0080, I think it's his cell phone. If he doesn't answer, don't leave a voice mail. A little birdie says he'll call you back if he doesn't know who you are.

You will have to contact Matt. It was Inland's Study, and they have custody of all the funds.

Geez how much did you donate? If it was a few hundred I can see being upset. I didnt donate but if I had I would let it go. Or try to contact the people doing the study that have the money not RDO, former Inland reef. Now at AD.com

FWIW, I understand and fully appreciate people's frustrations. Believe me: I do. I'm in the same boat as everyone else and likely donated more of my personal money (not to mention A LOT more time) then anyone else.

Why does that matter? I gave some money in good faith, and have waited and waited and waited and waited and waited and.... you get the idea. We have gotten zero results, and pretty much each update is more like an excuse.

If I'm the only guy asking for a refund, he should have no problem taking care of it. I'll use that money toward something else that actually gives me results.

I'm not here to argue with you, and am merely explaining my stance. Len, how do I contact Matt specifically? It appears you can't reach him either.

I don't know. As you said, I can't get a hold of him myself.

Len,

Was a check written by you or someone else at RDO to turn over the funds? If so, what was the exact wording of the payee information on that check. Was the check made payable to an individual (Matt Marullo) or to Inland Reef Aquaria?

Thanks,
Bone

Because of our administrative overhaul in 2004, I do not currently have access to our former checking information. I have confirmed Reefs.org sent Matt a check on 2/22/04 in the amount of $2,304.03, but I have not been able to confirm the payee (Matt or Inland).

OK. Regardless of payee, we have an RDO check for $2,304.03. Any idea how the rest of the money was donated? IIRC there was an amount that was donated via Pay-pal and/or credit card.

Anyone that donated via credit card or Pay-pal should file a complaint through them. Doing so might uncover whether or not Matt or Inland Reef is protected by bankruptcy laws.

Len, were you or anyone at RDO notified of a bankruptcy filing by Matt or Inland Reef?

Thanks again, Bone.
