Vendor Issues

It's a little hard to figure out what side of the fence some of us are on because some of us don't have any idea what actually happened. Perhaps most of us don't... All this is rather general. So generally, I personally don't mind if a vendor is a Moderator as long as a Moderator does not have complete power - and it doesn't seem like anyone does. There do appear to be checks and balances.

About cursing - we are not, indeed, 5. However, being that this web-site does not belong to one individual who is king, there is absolutely no excuse to throw insults at anyone and not be called on it. It seems to me that almost all web boards have rules about personal attacks. And the punishment tends to be a suspension of an account for the person who did the attacking. This isn't new to the internet or unique to MR. There is a way for us adults - since we are not 5 - to talk and deal with one another. Cursing and abuse - or pulling each other's hair, or throwing sand, etc. - shoud not be part of it.

Someone also said that the banned vendor should be allowed to defend himself like the other party is doing. I actually have not seen anyone defending themselves, from either side of the situation. All we have here is a lot of MR users not directly involved in the situation, perhaps not even knowing what happened, having a heated exchange about MR and how it functions. Personally I think it's healthy. As long as we don't disintegrate into hair-pulling, hissy-fit throwing 5-year-olds.

Joe, there's a difference between cursing in a pm and cursing out the mod who is trying to be of service in that pm.

Not one of the mods would care about curse words in a PM. Say all the four letter words you want. Just don't curse us out when we're trying to help the situation.

Why was that never addressed? why was a member allowed to under cut a deep with mod knowing about it?
He then pm'd deeps customers and told them to buy from him resulting in lost customers...

You guys are not getting it.
You dont address the issues properly at the time they happen so what do you expect when you tell him you will take care of another problem. Ofcourse he's gonna get pissed...

The site problems are just get worse and worse.


Josh.. listen to what we are telling you.. mods are not all powerfull.. you need to start with some changes..
You started this site with a vision. and im sure someday you invisioned making money. you may not be making it now. but im sure you would liek soon.


Run the site as business. Meeting with the mods once week.. Find out whats going on.
NO more conflicts of interest.
BUSINESS IS BUSINESS.

This site is in favor of some people. If it is a community, then every one should have there say. But it looks like this site is for only certain people. In this case, DEEPWATER is not the looser. MR lost a good vendor.

This thread was created to preempt the questions, I stated that in my first post.

I think it actually had the opposite effect. Upon reading your first post I was at a total loss. So like Wingo said, the curiosity wheels started churning.
As to what is actually happening, I have gotten a vague idea of what has happened by reading this thread.
Ronen maybe losing some business by being banned, but those who are his customers can, and will contact him. And life goes on.

What ever happened to the Manhattan Reefs Pseudo/Kasei introduced me to? I've been w/MR since 03, and lately I see a lot of bickering, less and less

I agree with the above statement. I've been a member for a while now and met Ronen who was nothing but kind and informative. I find that some of these moderators take the power they are given to the head. This thread should have been started once Ronen came back from his ban so other members who don't know the WHOLE store and arent being TOLD can get different point of views.

Honestly i dont know the history between members and mods, but what i know is that Ronen is a stand up guy. Hes always been a help and hes is a great vendor. Is there a way to get him un-banned by popular vote?

BTW so many forums go through this, where mods and members clash and people wonder why things cant be like the good 'ol days. Things change. The change only comes as a bad thing when people try to hold on to what was. Just take what you got out of it and let go of what wont be anymore...

I Think that the initial posts vagueness actually antagonized people rather than helped to calm the situation. I am not 100% on what transpired between Ronen and the Mods, but I have pieced together enough to see the picture. I have dealt with enough of the mods here through my own problems to know that they are not the objective guardians they portray themselves as (does not apply to all mods just the several I have dealt with). I think there needs to be a posted mission statement for this website that is stickied on it's own forum that is used PURELY for Mod activity and dispersing information. If in fact this site is not the non-profit it claims to be than that also should be stated in very clear english. The air needs to be cleared and it falls on the moderators now to end this. Man up and say exactly what happened and exactly why the Mods came to their decision. If you can't own up to any of it than prepare to have any and all decisions questioned as to motives in the future. Also, it strikes me as a huge conflict of interest to have a mod who is also a vendor. I am not saying that there has ever been an abuse of power but relinquishing the moderator status would remove any notion of impropriety not to mention a potential source for liability.

Harif my statement has nothing to do with Ronen, or the mods.
If you read my post I was referring to the antagonistic air that now permeates this site. It is more and more like RC. If change means letting go of being civil to one another, then I'd much rather move on. Live is to short to spend it arguing, scratching, and fightin.:sigh:

Even after un-banning him like it was mention, i personally dont think he would want to come back here cause i know i wouldn't if i was in the situation. Its like being suspended from your job and then when you come back (due to monetary reasons) you are looking for a new job the same day.

I feel that to start this thread and not publish ALL the info for ALL to see does nothing more than stir the pot! How is anyone supposed to come to any kind of informed conclusions without all the facts?!
In my opinion it doesn't help anyone! The whole thing stinks!
Let everyone know the whole story - both sides- or don't drag it out like this in a public forum.
It seems completely unfair to talk about, but not allow Ronen- a stand up individual, valued MR member/vendor and friend to defend himself (as well as anyone else involved), while we all discuss a situation with a fraction of the facts!
I joined this site to further enhance my enjoyment of the hobby- NOT to log on and witness twisted and warped threads of discontent!

Ronen is not the only one that's been affected by this banning. Those MR members who had arrangements to pickup corals, but couldn't because they had no way of contacting him, also got the short end of the stick.

Incidentally, last I checked (30 seconds ago) Deepwater Extreme vendor page is still up. The banner, with a phone number, is also still up. Nobody disappeared into a black hole.
