Hello everyone I just registered here and wanted to chime into the conversation and let everyone know that I just sold my tunze 6060(1600gph) and bought me two of the 850gph Koralia pumps. I have to tell you that the luxury of having two pumps that dispurse the water of one Tunze, without the sand and water turbulence that comes from one big pump is great. These little pumps are quiet, effecient, and unbelievably affordable. Here is a shot of my tank and the placement of the pumps. Just thought that you guys might like to hear some good about these little pumps.

This is a 90g mixed. 48x18x27(or 30). I didnt get to see the 1200 in play at the LFS, but I have to say that the 850 move the water very nicely from front to back and gets a GREAT side pull too. I would say either 3 1200's or 4 850's..... and believe me that you wont be let down. They are quiet, low power pulling and very affordable. What else do you want?

On a different note, Here are a couple of specs on my tank also. Its a 90g, I have a 4 bulb 32 watt per bulb T5 fixture. In this fixture there are two "super actinics" one blue and one actinic white. There is also 1 250w SE MH and 1 175w SE MH. There is a 1300 gph Closed loop, 2 850 gph Koralia Pumps, 1 1100 gph Seio PH, and my 30g sump has a 750 gph octopus pump for the return. I also have a 6" chambered Reef Octopus skimmer with a 750 gph pump on it too. The tank is approx. 9 months old, and all of the coral in there has come from frags.... I have bought no colonies. Just thought that I would share the specs so that you have an idea of tank conditions. As you can imagine, the trites and trates are N/A. I keep the calcium count somewhere around 500 ppm. One other thing, the price that you can get these Koralia for, I think that the 850gph was 40 dollars. WHo cares if it only last for two years.... I actually sold my tunze 6060 to buy these little pumps... and I am happy!!

THanks, and I am glad that I found this little site!!

ok..received the powerheads today. they are quite powerful. i believe that i can get away with 2 of them, and nothing else. 8O
i am still trying to figure out the best placement without tearing my xenia off of my rockwork! 8O
meanwhile, they are completely quiet. alittle bigger than the max jets, but not horribly large.
mounting consists of 1 giant suction cup and a magnet, which works great IMO.
i ordered them from these folks-

very nice and fast shipping. i'm pleased.

Hey x,

Do they send out a direct shot flow or does it disperse in a 360 degree pattern. As for being quiet would you say no more noise than an MJ. Size wise what would you compare it to.

hmm..i would say...direct flow. but a bit dispersed. i mean, it doesn't come out like a fan..all over the place, but by the time it's 2 feet away..the flow is pretty wide.
i meant those pics in reverse. the second pic shows where the powerhead is in reference to the GSP, and the first is the gsp close up. the last is the length pointing straight out.

i forgot to mention- the head is mounted on a ball and socket joint, so you get a pretty decent range of motion with it, about a 45 degree turn or so. any angle you like.

yes, but this takes the place of over 2 maxijets in my opinion.
it doesn't look that big in my tank. just as bothersome as any other powerhead. think of it this way...if you look at a maxijet, it's side profile is "L" shaped...4" or so x 3" ......that equals 7 inches. this is 6 in a row, and again..it will take the place of 2 powerheads.

I am currently running two Seio 1500s in my 125g system. It is viewable from both sides, so one PH is at each end.

Would the 1200's be a good replacement for the Seios flow wise?

Also, can these PHs be hooked up to a wave maker?

Thanks

They shouldn't be hooked up to a wavemaker but I hear they can be run on Rio's Seio controller.

I put one 850 gpm koralia on each end of my 125g reef, and 2 650gpm units on the back. I use a JBJ wavemaker set at 5 min, it is working great. I have two ecotech vortechs but am waiting for some parts until I put them back into service. Until ecotech comes out with their wavemaker, these hydors are an excellent way to go (if they last). THe flow is well dispersed, I had the 1200gpm but sold it to a friend because it had too much velocity for my tanks inhabitants.....

I have been running 2 600 Hydors love them, my buddy put in the Vortechs and had some problems, the are very fussy to set up, he goofed up the "pins" on them enitially. Unless heat is an issue, for the price I go with the Hydors. Nothing last forever, and I can by allot of Hydors for the cost of a Vortech!!!!!!!
