I have an XM 10K. Its kinda yellow in person but its not all that bad. I'm getting an actinic up very soon. Going to order the endcaps today and rebuild my canopy this weekend to be able to fit the VHO. The pics come out really really yellow but I dont know why. Camera skills still arent good. Thast exactly what I want for my corals to color up. Hopefully I can get the VHO on there by this weekend of maybe earlier.

Well turns out the Bleached color finally got back to being all brown so I'm happy with the progress of that one.

You might want to invest in a better reflector, something like a PFO parallel unit. I don?t think the one I see in your picture reflect most of the light into the tank, it is looks more like a 180 deg plane and wasting the light.

What about cooling fan?? you are not planning to use any in the canopy?

ctx, the tank is a 30g and the VHO bulb is 36inches long.

reefguy, I do have a firefish in there just dont see him all the much. He hides most of the day.

cali_reef, better reflectors are on the new list of "must get" items. I know I lose a whole lot of light. It has a little bend, but I dont have lots of $$ to spend on the reflector. What would be something good but inexpensive? As for the cooling fans, right now I don't have anything cooling the tank and the temperature stays pretty constant at around 80. The entire back on the canopy is open so I guess that helps out a bit too. Might install some of those radioshack computer fans in the summer if I see the temp getting to high.

I have two 175MH and set at around 11" above water. If I don't use any fan, my temp will go up the roof to around 82-84.. I really don't want to add a chiller as that will kill the electricy bill..

As far as the reflector goes, I brought the parabolic one online for about $25. They are not the best but is decent. I heard that the diamond reflector are the best, but cost a furtune.

Hmmm..ctx would you mind pointing me in the direction of those reflectors?

I was looking around on hellolights.com and the only reflector that I was able to come across was what looked like a spider reflector for like $30. Its not a bad deal but then its 13 inches wide and there would be no room for the VHO argghhh. I made this bootleg one out of a piece of sheet metal from Lowes. I'll post a pic of it in a few mins. I don't know if it works any better. On a good note it only cost $4 and that came out of the mothers purse cause I went to Path Mark with her. :D
