So I've been looking at the tank and I'm noticing a lot of shadows. Colors are great, polyp extension is great, but I'm wondering if the tank would be better lit by 2 Par38 bulbs, rather than one.

Have one on from 11am - 6pm and the other one from 2pm to 10pm, so there would be 4 hours of overlap. One would be at the back of the tank point forward (lighting the back of corals) the other would be at the front pointing towards the back of the tank (lighting the front of the coral). I know it's to early to tell anything, but just wondering if anyone else had thoughts on this.

Attached is a diagram:eek: What do ya'll think?

Thanks :lol2:

Any thoughts?

Yes the tank you cooked up doesnt looke like its 12x12x12... lol

But anyway, what light are you thinking about using? I used a repid led par38 and it works great. I do notice some small dark spots but i kind of like it. Gives fish some shade... But if you are planing to add two lights that would work well but i dont think it would look as clean. Unless you put them really close together and use 70 or 60 optics. Also raise them alittle higher.

you mean it looks bigger than a 12x12x12? :)

I'm running a Rapid LED Par38 right now and I think it's just a funky angle right not that's making me want another bulb. The spread over the tank is good, but I think another bulb pointing in the opposite direction would be great for all around lighting. Right now the bulb is about 12inch above the water line, so the spread isn't a problem, more of shadows on the back of corals, since the light is coming from a single point.

I see your theory but not always true.
Ur theory is right if the reef is flat but most arent. Most are a series of inclines and declines so not every spot can be lit at all times

Matty'sCornerAqauriums

Definitely have a point there. I'll stick with the one for now, if I happen to come across one for a steal of a deal I'll get it and see how things go.

My only tank inhabitants that will be fish. They're still nameless, but they're eating everything I throw in the tank. Didn't eat for a couple days and then started going crazy for food. can't get a great pic cause they never stop moving :(
