I have a question for all American Muslim people: If America would go to war with your old country and you are asked to join arms against your old country would you go? or would you hide behind your religion/belives to avoid being drafted?

I have an idea:

Let's talk about FISH! then about Corals, shrimp, corraline algae, and maybe a bit about Kalkwasser. Then, perchance, we might talk about Sand beds, fauna, bristleworms, skimmers, and maybe even tangs... no, on second thought, lets leave out the tangs for a while...

I got only a few brief periods of peace in my heart which has been troubled greatly in the last few days thinking of the suffering, pain and the horrors of the attack, as well as worrying about the love of my life (my wife) and my amazing boy, who will be one in two weeks. The only peace I have felt has been on my knees, and when today I was so busy in the plant where I am working today that I could think of nothing but work.

Let's remember the common interest we all have (except for those on the board selling RO units) and talk about that for a while. Maybe we can then realize that we are all alike in one respect, regardless of race, color, creed or political background: We are addicted to this hobby!

Not to make light of what has happened, nor the importance of many of these issues. I simply doubt that anyone's opinion will change through exchanges like this, and the only result of these debates is to make us more angry.

Fmx2md, I can answer yes if it means saving lives and can answer no if it dosen't. If that church has biological weapons in the basement that are being readied for deployment then that church is a target. Your question dosen't have an unequivocal answer to it in my opinion.
Your other answer about your news sources does not convince me that Israel is practicing "mass destruction". I have no idea what agenda the people have that you talked with, I also don't believe that the BBC is the end all to news reporting.

For the same reason if I were Indian, Chinese, or African I would also turn to outside news sources because my country's media might be extremely narrow in its coverage. First and foremost. I am not a practicing anything and dont think that sort of subject matter should be discussed on this board. My deepest sympathy goes out to all the families and victims everywhere.

Well, All I can say about the matter is that I see the rest of the country getting all huffy puffy (and there has been some of that here too) and out of shape about this event. I watched, standing on 5th Ave. and 19th street as all of this happened. There is no single one more sobering thing I ever seen in my life than that. People can agree and deny all they want to about this matter but until I see some resolution to this matter I will be sad of this government and this whole situation. What happened to spirit that america had!!! What happened to being a world power. I saw so many people who went from being selfish and blind to loving and kind in one second!!! I was one of them. America has become Jaded to everything going on in this world and its time we caught up and realized whats going on around us. No other country has the ability to do what we have done and we waste it. I dont see how we can be so tolerant of any terrorist act, on any soil, anywhere! That goes for people and countries that harbor them! Any and all should be punished for what has happened. You give an idiot a piece of rope...he hang himself with it. We just gave too much rope out!

I served 8 years in the Air Force and was in the Gulf War. I also prayed with my Muslim brothers in Abu Dhabi. Untill we go to war with America I see no conflict of intrest. Both sets of my grand parents came from Ireland. I do not think I have to say that being Muslim is not the same as being Arab.

Just for clarification I would have to say I am more Agnostic now as I beleive not any one book holds all the answers. I still do however turn to my Koran more than any other religious text.

Just because the people who perpetrated this crime worshiped God through the Koran does not mean any Muslim has anything in common with them. Just as almost all Christians have nothing in common with Adolph Hitler.

I hope someday we will know each other better and learn to like and even love each others differences instead of fearing them and even hating what we do not understand.

SPS this mass destruction Im a referring to is the conflict between Israel and Palestine, resulting in the loss of lives on both fronts. If the United States is to play the role of International Policeman then it should either help both or stop its support unilaterally. Instead it chooses to help one and not the other (I don’t consider giving a millions in food to one helping when the other is receiving billions to be used in weaponry, intelligence, and to enhance its economy and people as a whole. This is not mediating or policing it is favoritism which is being justified for financial rather than humanitarian reasons.

Additionally, I'm not surprised that such a high level of ignorance, naivite and hatred exists in this country-a veritable melting pot of cultures, lifestyles and religions...point in case, desktopsilver. I wonder if a geneological search would make people like him reconsider their views. Who here can claim to be 100% pure American blood? I can't--such a thing does not exist except, perhaps, in some Native American communities (p.s., you don't see them bombing the crap out of us for stealing their land and killing their people). It's the new millenium and people are still unable to see past the color barrior. If we react to this disaster by behaving the same way as the people who masterminded this attack, aren't we just as "evil" and heartless as they are? The statement "Love thy neighbor" does not include the caveat "just be sure they're the right color/race/creed". I've been reading and replying to posts like this on several boards and I think it's time I quit. I'm glad of the fact that there are enough good hearted, intelligent Americans out there to create an even balance against the ignorant, hateful, Un-American people who share the same feelings as desktopsilver. God Bless America and God help us all.

A friend of mine was in the building that the first jet crashed into. He watched the plane crash into the floors above him, and he had the wheels from that aircraft sticking through the ceiling in his office. He almost died. He has not expressed the same sentiments as some of the people here about killing every Arab. Oh, by the way, he's also Jewish, as is my wife. None of them have said that all Arabs should die. I urge those of you who have said this to read Chucker's post about re-reading and thinking twice before posting. Emotions may get heated, and you may have something to say, but when you become a racist, there's no turning back. May those of you who express such hatred and anger reap what you sow.

An interesting aside, it's human nature to overreact and I'm often guilty of it myself. An example of how it's very difficult to control, the Reverend Jerry Falwell was on the radio the other day saying how he felt that we needed to send rockets to all the terrorists and kill their families so that they got the message (paraphrasing), kind of like we did to Quaddafi, and since he's been relatively quiet since we killed his children, it's a good plan. Nice religious message. I believe in an eye for an eye, but not taking an innocent's eye for an innocent's eye.

Also, for those of you saying it's free speech to say you hate, then why is it that you don't believe that Palestinians can do the same? If you believe that their government is so warped and perverted, then how do you know what kind of propaganda they are being fed? I don't agree with what I saw, it makes me sick and angry, but how can you blame a child and wish that child was dead?

One last thing, over there, both sides are guilty of wanting genocide. I have a friend who works for an Israeli company who was accidentally sent an e-mail that discussed a Holy War and exterminating and nuking ALL Arabic peoples.

We're all basing our hate, fear and other emotions on what the media has released to us so far. Before you jump to conclusions, think about how many times the media has corrected itself and how often they say that the information they are relaying is not completely reliable.
