Update - called the fish store to follow up. They sent the tank to the manufacturer. The company is called deep blue? So apparently they are waiting for word from them but hen decided to throw a lil jab at me. The owner said it doesn't look like a pressure crack. He said it looks like something hit it. I told him that its impossible cuz the tank was in a corner and the back of the tank was up against the wall. He said he's not saying hat actually happened but that's his opinion after looking at the tank. Said he'll get back to me once he hears from deep blue. I'm furious. Things aren't looking good.

you should contact deep blue personally,their a reputable company. don't just take lfs opinion if deep blue blue says it was their install error they may not tell you cause they would have to foot the bill. just curious, how long was tank set up.

Let us know either way after you get a response. Hopefully, it will be a positive outcome. This can provide us queens hobbyists an idea of how our lfs will treat their customers if there is a problem after the sale.

definitely. well its not a good sign that the store owner is already insinuating that i hit the tank with something. its kind of insulting to be honest. "it looks like the tank was hit with something" were his exact words. i think they are already setting me up for bad results. if they even sent the tank to the manufacturer like they said. but who knows..

Send an email with your number & email addy to the manufacturer explaining what has happened, what store you purchased it from, date of purchase, and install. Provide them with a copy of the receipt if possible. Don't mention that you were told that it looks like the tank got hit.

Would not surprise me one bit if the store's response is that it is definitely "the tank was hit with something".....

the manufacturer/distributor actually has the tank. (so i was told) the lfs picked up the tank from my house and said they were going to show it to the manufacturer.

I thought a picture is more than sufficient, a picture is worth a 1000 word. Why bother with transporting it a cracked tank. If the manufacture is good, they would just honor it. Good luck!

I know this.;) What I am saying to you is to send an email to the email address you got with the info I mentioned. It won't hurt, but it may help.

Many hardware company do want a defective item back. I had some Edge hood rusted, some people were able to get free replacement from Hagen with just a picture but when I talked to the Hagen/Fluval rep in our last MR swap, he insisted I need to pay for the new hoods. When my buddy asked the same question in other trade shows, the mgt, said they can they take care of them as long as they received the defective items so that they can study it. Even as big as Hagen/Fluval there are so many conflicting ways of handling the same issue, I think it all depends on the blue moon. LOL

@OP,
based on what I just said above, sending the extra email like Awi said will not hurt, it just double your chance of catching them at the blue moon. :biggrinpa

As for the empty stand, put a pot of plants there in the mean time, HAHAHAHA

Everyone here is giving you great advice on contacting the manufacturer. You want to basically personalize what the issue is, so that they know that there is a person behind the ownership of the tank. Not the vendor on the other side who sold it. Keep in mind that with all things, maybe this may end up benefiting the vendor as they can get a free tank from the damage and not pass it on to you. You end up fitting a bill and pay a credit balanced off from the damaged tank.

But hey... it's all on you and how you want to proceed now.
