Wes take the PATH to 6th ave and walk down to me, it's a ten minute walk at most. PM me to set up a time. OR  someone might bring there meter to the swap to run tests, are you going to that?

Thanks Jonathon. I may take you up on it. Unfortunately I can't make it to this swap. My bachelor party is this weekend. Vegas Baby! :thrash:

My Procedure for the tests are as follows:
Clean cuvet with cloth
Fill cuvet with sample
Turn ON meter
Screw on black cover to cuvet
Clean cuvet with cloth
Hold up to light to make sure glass is clean
Insert into meter
Zero
Open reagent packet
Remove cuvet and unscrew black cover
Add reagent (tapping packet lightly)
Start timer on meter
Clean cuvet of reagent powder
Insert plactic seal to covet
Screw on black cover
Clean cuvet with cloth
Hold to light to make sure glass is clean
Mix/Shake to dissolve powder
Till meter reads 2:00 minutes
Insert into meter and wait for reading

I woud switch it up a little bit, hold it up to the light and clean the cuvet with a cloth after you shake it. I find that after shaking you sometimes have bubbles or reagent sticking to the inside of the cuvet, these can usually be disloged with a gentle tap.

Is it safe to lower your phosphates in 4hrs?

I'm getting a reactor and trying to find the best media and safest way to lower the phosphates without causing an STN. Any idea?

I'm getting a reactor and trying to find the best media and safest way to lower the phosphates without causing an STN. Any idea?

I had an A. milliopora and and A. Austera STN on me when I first started using GFO, I assume that it was caused by a rapid decrease in phosphate levels. I would start out using very little GFO in a reactor, 1/4 or less of the recomended amount. (note that when I first started usng the GFO, I was using 1/2 the reccomended amount) If your phospate leves are high, it will be exhausted in a few days, so replace it. I would slowly increase the amount of GFO used each time you replace it.

With the help of the Hanna meter and GFO I have been able to bring my Phosphate levels down. I am now using 75 grams of Phosar, and I am replacing it every week. I have been able to keep my phosphates at about .04. I have been feeding sparingly. I assume that phosphates are leeching out of my rock and sandbed. I have had most of the rock for about 6 years, and only started using GFO about two months ago, the sand bed is about a year old.

I thought about the Hanna but i'm gonna save up and get this one. It comes with like 100 tests and the accuracy is way better.

http://www.coleparmer.com/catalog/product_view.asp?sku=9956222

It's the best one. In order is lamotte, hach, hanna.

That's nice +/-.001 accuracy.

There was talk of Hach having a +/-.015 accuracy, but a phone call was made to hach and they said it was a mistake and the accuracy was +/- .04, the same as the Hanna

I posted about the accuracy of the hach pocket colorimeter 2 being more accurate. So I called Hach and they told me that the .0015 abs accuracy is absorption of the reagant not the accuracy of the test and that the meter is +- .04, they same as the hanna meter. Now the accuracy listed on the Lamotte talks about absorption, not the meter itself. So be careful and call LaMotte first.

Hach's $3000 Photo Spectrometer is only accurate to +-.02, so after learning this information I bought the Hanna as for the money it was less expensive and just as accurate as the Hach.
Just got my hanna today
